The dentist needs to pay attention to the alignment of the teeth amongst other issues that are likely to cause problems.

Even though children may need to see dentists a few times during their childhood, visiting a dentist is still a scary prospect especially if it involves tooth extraction. This article looks at some of the possible conditions that may require a child's tooth to be removed.

Tooth Decay

The main reason a pediatric dentist may decide to extract a child's tooth is decay. However, the rot needs to be extensive enough to prompt an extraction. The tooth will need to be extracted when the decay is so extensive that a root canal procedure will not adequately address the problem.

Extraction is the last resort, especially where a primary tooth is involved. Even though the decay may be widespread, removing the baby tooth can cause the teeth to shift to cover up the remaining space. Therefore, when a baby tooth needs to be removed prematurely, our pediatric dentists will recommend replacing with a prosthetic tooth to avoid any alignment complications later.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth

The other reason your child's tooth may need to be removed is if the wisdom teeth are impacted. Even though these teeth appear in adulthood, for children they may fail to grow out of the gums properly at their initial stages.

These teeth need to be removed to avoid complications in the future. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause swelling, tenderness of the gums, and in some cases may trigger gum disease.

Dental care for children requires special attention thanks to the children's rapid growth and development. Primary teeth need to be removed on time otherwise they could cause complications. For the best pediatric dental care for your child, visit our offices today.
