Ways to Make Brushing and Flossing Something Your Kids Look Forward To

Good oral hygiene and excellent oral health begin early in life, and the habits start at home, with you! Before daily flossing and brushing becomes a dreaded 'chore' to your child, let's look at a few ways to ensure that your child is not only excited to maintain their own oral health, but looks forward to daily brushing and flossing as well.
Making It Fun Mary Poppins said, “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.” Finding the fun in a job changes the mundane into a game, and that's the key, especially when it comes to children. Go shopping with your child and help them pick out a toothbrush that they're excited about.
Whether it's covered with glitter and sparkles or their latest favorite super hero, finding a special toothbrush can help your child look forward to the experience. Perhaps choose one that sings a special song for two minutes to help your child brush for the recommended time or find a special song that you play only at brushing time.
Flavored flosses and special children's toothpastes can also help your child look forward to the twice a day routine. Make sure that your child has a mirror that is low enough so that they can watch what they're doing and learn how to brush correctly.
Most importantly, be sure that you're brushing your own teeth right along with your child. Children love spending time and imitating their parents, so get in there and make it a special time for just the two of you!
Our office also strives to provide a stress free and fun environment for your child during their checkups, so give us a call today and schedule your next cleaning. We look forward to having fun with your child and ensuring that their oral health is in tip top shape!
