Proactive Dental Care for Kids

Posted on 5/10/2019 by Front Office
National Dental Care Awareness Month, recognized throughout the month of May, serves as a reminder of the importance of caring for our teeth.

The pediatric dentists at Pleasanton Pediatric Dentistry promote and encourage healthy dental hygiene and preventative dental care starting at an early age.

Educating your child on the importance of good dental health care can help prevent cavities and future pain and expense of dental procedures.

We strongly recommend that patients brush twice daily, floss, keep the sugary snacks to a minimum, and see us twice a year.

And if your child plays a contact sport, we stress the importance of using professionally-fit mouth guards.

National Dental Care Month brings awareness just in time for a summer full of family reunions, weddings, and vacations – all times when we love to take pictures and smile! So, brush up on your dental care and make sure you schedule a visit for your child with one of our awesome pediatric dentists.

Some good dental care habits for kids:

Brush Teeth Regularly – Play your child’s favorite song for two minutes!

The American Dental Association recommends brushing at least twice a day. Those who snack often or follow a diabetic diet of several small meals will need to brush more often as part of their dental care routine. It should take at least two minutes to brush completely and it is also recommended to brush the tongue to remove bacteria and food particles.

Floss Every Day – Buy some colorful, fun flossers!

Flossing helps remove food and bacteria that become lodged between the teeth. As cavities between teeth can be hard to see and complicated to correct, flossing is absolutely essential but is often overlooked or skipped. For those who find it difficult to floss, disposable flossing picks are available at most drug stores.

Protect Teeth Against Trauma – Have us fit your child for a mouth guard!

Tooth decay isn’t always caused by poor hygiene. Grinding teeth while sleeping, also called bruxism, can lead to damage and decay. Chipped teeth caused by sports injuries can also leave teeth vulnerable to cavities. Protecting teeth against all forms of trauma will help keep them free of cavities and decay and is essential to proper dental care.

See A Dentist at Pleasanton Pediatric Dentistry Regularly – We make kids smile!

It’s important to see a dentist on a set schedule, ideally twice a year. During exams, our dentists can locate and treat tiny areas of decay before they can bloom into big problems. Proper dental care by a trained professional is part of a healthy routine, so make an appointment with us and stick to it.

If it’s been more than six months since your child has been seen, call us at (925) 846-KIDS to schedule an appointment.
